Leanne Aroha Mulder.

Creative

Leanne is a devoted admirer of green hills and mountain vistas, continuously drawing inspiration from the rugged, untamed landscapes that resonate deeply with her. Her artistic journey is one of ongoing exploration, where she blends the fluidity of watercolors with the boldness of acrylics, crafting both expansive large-scale pieces and smaller, delicate works. Each creation is rich in layers and emotion, with textures that invite the viewer to explore the essence of the land itself.

Growing up on the outskirts of Dunedin, Leanne’s connection to nature was nurtured by family excursions into the wilderness, often led by her father, a surveyor. These formative experiences, paired with her Māori heritage, are reflected in her art through subtle markings that denote place, travel, and a deep-rooted connection to the land. The influence of old topographical maps often makes its way into her pieces, bridging her personal history with the landscapes that inspire her.

Now dividing her time between Northland and Auckland, Leanne balances a full-time career with family life, raising her two teenagers, Grace (16) and Jacob (19), alongside her partner Tim. Together, they are restoring a piece of land along the stunning coast of Whangarei, cultivating both vegetables and a deep connection to the natural beauty surrounding them. Just as her art is infused with passion and adventure, so too is each chapter of her life, woven together by a shared love of land, family, and creative expression.
